‘Grotesque‘ is the second solo exhibition with the Gallery for LA based artist, Matthew Carter.

Carter’s motivation and strategy is structured by the opposition between a normalized grotesque and an outlandish ordinary, while struggling to stay within a problematic of modernist abstraction. Read more

Carter’s work is outstanding and reflects a great reflexion on the Art in general. This is th reason we’ve decided to add his name to our Emerging Artist’s selection. It’s a must be seen exhibition. BCh

Matthew Carter lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

Carter was born 1981 in Moline, Illinois,

He received his MFA from Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles, in 2010, and his BFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2005.
Upcoming and recent solo and group exhibitions include Bloody Red Sun of Fantastic LA (curated by Rene-Julien Praz, opening November 2015), PIASA, Paris, France; hellequinharlequinclown, Luis De Jesus Los Angeles, the 2013 MexiCali Biennial, Vincent Price Art Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE); Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA; Bolsky Gallery, Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles; and California State University Long Beach, Long Beach, CA. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and numerous private collections in the U.S.
