Excellent paintings at Peter Mendenhall gallery by painter Raimonds Strapans. The artist from Latvia works and lives in San Francisco. He brings the best of his old age (87y) to his paintings: SERENITY.
There is a little something of Italian Morandi in the silence and the choice of topics. Like Morandi elements on the canvas as bottles, tomatoes and glasses are just as an excuse to paint. Those items represent the idea of the subject, any subject actually. They are the essence of the subject but are not interesting for what they are as bottle, glasses or tomatoes.
There is also a little something of Mark Rothko with the same strong deep backgrounds.
This is the opposite of an image. Very interesting for sure. BCh
