How to show my work?
You are brand new in the wide Art world.
You feel you ARE an artist and you are ready to show your artwork.
“What’s the best to show my artwork? “
Here are below some basics that each of you should do and most of the times don’t do.
CREATE YOUR OWN WEBSITE
The website is the very first impression a professional will catch from you
So, you must be very picky.
First of all, never forget that you show your artwork to professionals who don’t know you and your artwork. You must document your work, the more you can.
- It must reflect your personality
- It must be singular but most of all not complicated. Professionals don’t have time to play with it.
- Choose carefully the colors to enhance the best your artwork
- Don’t put a too small typography or an unreadable one
- You must classify your artwork: by Medium and/or by Year or both
- Keep your website updated with your new artwork and exhibition, press article etc…
- You must add a CV/Biography (sometimes you have both) starting with
>>Born in (1985) in (somewhere) and
>>Lives and Works in (somewhere), then your
>>Education (or not),
>>Awards if so,
>>Your Gallery if so,
>>Solo exhibitions and
>>Group shows etc…
>>The first to read must be the last you did, e.g.:
>>2012 Group show at the Art center ldkfjdsdlkjf
>>2011 Solo Show at Blabla gallery - Write a statement (not too long, not too short)
- Don’t forget to put your contact infos in a good place: mail address, email and phone # (if you already have a gallery they would ask you to put their email instead)
- Put every article you like (from press and from an art critic)
- a website is the most efficient tool to show your artwork all around the world, so put a translation plugin to it.
THE IMAGES ON YOUR WEBSITE
This is the most critical part of your website
Professionals know the weakness of the Internet and they can easily “imagine” how the art work looks like if you do it well.
The classification (mentioned above) must show your evolution
You should at least:
- make excellent quality of images (we must see the details)
- have a fast and easy system to read your images
- put detailed caption with the technique, size and date to each one.
- put an easy to find “go back to menu”
You are all set!
