Regardez bien les photos ci-dessus puis reculez vous et vous verrez des paysages. L’un est fabriqué avec des bijoux de la famille proche de l’artiste sur un panneau de bois aux veines qui illuste un coucher de soleil. L’autre (à droite) est également un paysage fabriqué avec des mèches de cheveux d’une personne chère à l’artiste. Ces pièces sont l’exact reflet de toute l’oeuvre de cette toute jeune artiste : la quintessence de l’univers symbolique à elle toute seule. tant par le choix des sujets que les techniques employés ou matériaux.
Par l’utilisation à tous les niveaux d’éléments ou d’idées symboliques, elle nous offre une oeuvre aux multiples sens, dans laquelle il nous suffit de piocher celui qui nous convient.

Isabelle Cornaro’s Statement
The starting point of most of my works are documents / archives belonging to the fields of history and culture. These documents can be cartoons, art exhibition views, old paintings, rationalized spaces such as amusement parks or French gardens.
The use of these references, taken as signs that formalize aesthetical, historical and political systems, leads to a critical approach on past and contemporary cultural productions ; by extension, this critical approach can also apply to history and to the way the immediate surroundings are perceived.
The work can be understood as an enlarged practice of “drawing from nature” – where nature is already taken as a cultural representation.
These three recent series of drawings feature some characteristic aspects of my work: The preoccupation with spatiality ; the use of documents, such as photographs and maps of organized spaces or landscapes of a certain historical or political importance ; the mix of a minimalist aesthetics with expressionism and physicality introduced by the use of ready-made sentimentally charged objects (hair, jewels).
